Precision Fermentation

Is it really ice cream without the cows?

A team of very smart scientists at CSIRO were working on something very complex, but needed to communicate it simply (but interestingly) to folks who were just average non-scientists.

Precision Fermentation isn’t something that I imagine many people have heard of, although it already plays a significant role in many industries, including pharmaceuticals, as well as being a key part of in some pretty funky, futuristic things like genuine dairy but without any cows involved.

The process initially involved a series of meetings with the team, filled with lots of questions (from me) and lots of patience (from the team). I developed a script and storyboards by working through the full prevision fermentation process in great detail, and by using a few key messages as a filter, we eventually distilled it all down to the essentials.

The outcome: a short, punchy, visually engaging explainer of what would otherwise be a highly complex, scientific process.
